Lola truly was the gift sent from heaven. In my time of need she was sent to me. She had the purest soul. So much love to give 🐕❤️

PLEASE READ TO THE END!!

Lola was so gentle, even to the very end when she was suffering.

She never ever showed any aggression only love.

She was so caring and gentle, a ball of fluff.

She was great with the children and loved the snow.

She was amazingly clever too.

She was so bouncy, with this curled up tail that curled up onto her back.

She had a very loud bark (Elkhounds are known for this) but hated fireworks.

Lola passed away just over three weeks ago. It was so sudden. One minute she was okay, the next she was gone. The pain is unbearable. I’ve never experienced the loss of a human before, but I have lost many pets. This feels different. I’d imagine this is how losing a human feels because I just can’t describe the pain.

We took her to the vets as she was breathing fast, they said she had fluid on her lungs and gave me lots of medication to try. We came home but she just wouldn’t take the medication, even when I tried to hide it in food. I took her back the next day and they tried to do more tests. Lola was never the same again. We were told she wouldn’t do well with sedation so they were unable to get a biopsy to tell us for sure what it was. They suspected cancer, bacterial pneumonia. We were told we had two options. 1) treatment, 2) euthanasia. We opted for treatment, she stayed for a few hours at the vets having oxygen therapy and antibiotics but the surgery closed at 6:30 so we had to transfer her to the emergency vets. On our journey Lola got worse. We got her out the car and the vet just took one look and said it doesn’t look good. We were discussing what we should do with our children when Lola had a cardiac arrest on the table. We begged the vet to hurry with the injection as she was in so much pain. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. It was so sudden. My message to anyone reading this is PLEASE PLEASE if anything looks odd with your pet please seek help. Lola was breathing faster one day and panting, I just thought it was because the weather had changed and she was hot. Looking back at videos I see that she was like this a few weeks before but I hadn’t noticed.

I can’t help but think if I’d have spotted it sooner I may have been able to save her.

I will live with this guilt forever.

I am told Elkhounds are stoic and hide illness and as it was so sudden from when we took her to the vets, it was something more sinister. Even so, you never stop thinking “What if?” So please, no matter how silly or small it may seem if you feel your pet is doing something different please get it checked out. 🙏 it just may save their lives.

Fly high and run free my beautiful Lola 🐕💔 xx
